OUR STORY
Bradan Dorpers was established in early 2007. Owners Brad and Danielle McIntosh are passionate dorper breeders whom enjoy sharing their passion with others.

STUD PHILOSOPHY
"The ram is half your flock, the ewe is half the lamb"
Strict animal selection at key times is crucial to breeding top quality animals.

GENETIC HISTORY
Our flock started with direct embryo lambs from the John Dell Stud in South Africa. These ewe lambs were purchased through Dell Dorpers (NSW) in Australia. Throughout the years we have continued to obtain genetics from Dell Dorpers and also Kaya Dorpers (WA). By only concentrating on these genetic sources the "Bradan" type has been established.

Why Dorpers?
Why Dorpers are ideal for our enterprise and most likely for yours too!
Adaptability & Hardiness
The breed is well adapted to survive in the arid extensive regions of South Africa. Which enables it to flourish in Australia's conditions. Recent drought years have once again shown how hardy the dorper is, not only surviving but continuing to flourish.
High Fertility & Mothering Ability
High twinning rates, triplets common also. Dorpers reach breeding maturity at young ages. A Dorper ewe is non-seasonal, she can produce lambs 3 times in a 2 year period. Dorpers are very protective, attentive and do not loose their lambs easily. They are very good milk producers, providing quality sustenance for their fast growing lambs.
High Growth Rates & High Yield Percentage
Small birth weights (ave 3 to 4 kg Single lambs), reaching weights of 40 to 50 kg by the age of 4 to 6 months old.
Dorpers have superior traits in muscling, yield (dressing out at 51%) and fat distribution.
Dorper Lamb is renowned for its eating quality, with the delicious taste of lamb without the fatty aftertaste or residue. Dorper Lamb has taste, texture and tenderness.
Low Maintenance & Mild Temperament
Over the years we have discriminated against undesirable temperament. This has resulted in our Dorpers having a quiet, inquisitive and mild temperament. We work our stock using quiet, calm, and low stress handling techniques. Dorpers low maintenance qualities make them a great choice for any commercial sheep enterprise as well as smaller land holders. They shed their fleece, don't require mulseing, or tail docking. Dorpers have a high resistance to internal and external parasites.
